When we visited Syria last year, my friend told his mom he wanted to take a gift for me. She said, "I think Westerners like flowers" so Samer bought some and brought them to the airport.
The funny part (or embarrassing for him part) was that he and his friend Ahmad were meeting the driver at the Damascus Hostel to pick us up at the airport and so Samer and Ahmad were walking through a neighborhood where neither lived around midnight and one of their college classmates was driving by and teased them. Basically it was, "Samer? Ahmad? What are you two doing in this neighborhood [it happened to be the Christian neighborhood of Old Damascus] at this time of night carrying flowers?" I don't think giving flowers is a huge part of their society to begin with so Samer admitted to me they were embarrassed. Their friend drove off and weeks later when they saw him again they explained they were meeting a driver and the flowers were for his American guests. :)
Here are my flowers. I thought it was very sweet to receive them.
Always looking for new endeavours, currently in Kuwait for latest career development. I like to make new friends and enjoy expressing my thoughts in my blogs. Hopefully, you will like what ever I write here, everyone is welcome to write their opinions, which may help to make myself a better human being...

I'm curious...is this something not traditionally done in your country or you just haven't found someone who would appreciate your gift of flowers?
hehe, I might have given a bouquet at one or two occasions...probably some weddings..but a part from that...none yet.
Haven't found anyone yet 8-)
Soon, inshallah! ;)

They are beautiful indeed. And yes... perhaps we are not that different from Syrian 'brothers' ;)
